Quick Details
Climb aboard the historic ‘PFT’ train and its iconic locomotive: the 5519!
Travel back in time on a picturesque ride through Flanders! Photos guaranteed!
40 years of IC – IR trains: a picturesque journey through Flanders.
IC (InterCity) and IR (InterRegio) rail services were introduced in 1984 with the restructuring of the SNCB network.
The aim of this system was to simplify and boost rail services across the country by better organising the different categories of train.
-
IC (InterCity): These lines link the main Belgian towns and cities, with a limited number of stops for rapid connections between the major urban centres.
-
IR (InterRegio): These lines complement the IC by offering more frequent services and serving medium-sized towns, while having a shorter journey time than the omnibus trains.
The first lines inaugurated in 1984 as InterCity (IC) links were the Brussels-Liège and Brussels-Ostend lines.
To mark the occasion, the PFT-TSP is organising a picturesque tour of Flanders!
Take a trip along the legendary lines (36, 35.2, 13, 53, 54, 59, 75) and especially line 86, which has yet to be electrified.
The perfect activity for train enthusiasts, those nostalgic for the trains of years gone by and anyone looking for an unforgettable train journey.

Find out more about the 5519 locomotive:
-
Built in 1961, 5519 is the only surviving example of the ‘blue 55s’.
-
Of the SNCB’s 450 mainline diesel locomotives, only 10 were capable of providing ‘electric heating’, and this is the case of the 5519 in particular.
-
After 5 years of restoration work on this loco, its General Motors V16 will take you on an unprecedented ride.
-
The 5519 is the only vehicle in Belgium to be managed by a non-profit association (asbl) and authorised to run on the national network!
